Last week at the studio, we hosted a fashion and foodie event with over 40 women (see last blog post for details). I have known Claudia Förtig (or Chef Claudia as she is known) for a while now and recently photographed at a prior food and fashion event in her home (photos follow below). Claudia’s easy manner, style and delicious food has ensured her events fill up quickly. We asked Claudia to tell us a bit about herself and her business below for our entrepreneur spotlight blog posts.
Tell me a little about you and your business – and how you got started in this business?
My name is Claudia Förtig and I´m from Germany. In 2007, me and my family moved from Munich to Luzern.
My passion was always cooking and sharing this with others. During the last years I invited my friends to cook with me many times, who enjoyed my dishes and my easy way of cooking. My friend Hilde gave me the idea to run my own business, leading me to start my cooking classes last year in October. I offer cooking classes for small groups in English and in German twice per month at my house. My clients like the private atmosphere and leave my sessions full of inspiration.
How do people find out about your business?
I offer my cooking sessions to a selected WhatsApp group consisting of friends and acquaintances. You can also find my cooking sessions on my Instagram and Facebook page (chef.claudia.foertig).
What are your professional goals?
My professional goal is to become a Chef which you can book for private dinner or lunch cooking events at a clients house.
What do you like most about what you do?
I totally enjoy my cooking sessions because it´s always a great feeling to inspire people to cook fresh and healthy meals. My motivation is to show people very easy recipes for every day cooking without too many ingredients.
Where do you get inspiration from?
I always find inspiration when I go to restaurants or read magazines and cooking books. I never cook the original recipe without adding my own style.
What has been your proudest moment since you began your business?
My proudest moment was when I send out my first invitation for a cooking session – within 30 minutes I was fully booked.
Where is home?
Home is always where my family is. I feel very grateful to have a wonderful husband and son.
Which two words best describe your personality?
These words describe myself: burning for action and organized.
What’s your favourite quote?
My favourite quote is carpe diem. Unfortunately time is limited so we shouldn´t waste it!
Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest?
My favourite dinner guest would be the Austrian chef Sarah Wiener because she is a very interesting person. She became a chef quite late and had funny jobs prior to this, such as a shepherd!
If you could wake up tomorrow having gained one quality or ability, what would it be?
If I could gain an ability I wish I could fly because I would love to see the world from above and experience the freedom of flying.
