I have “adopted” the WWF (World Wildlife Federation) this year as the charity I follow and photograph for when needed, in particular the Central Switzerland section of the charity.
The sponsored run which took place at the Herti sports ground on 16 September was the second event I had photographed for WWF Schweiz. The first was their stand at the “O Sole Bio” market on a hot day in August in Zug when they were amongst other things, selling wooden bee hives – see link here if you would like to buy one for your garden.
The sponsored run was to raise funds and awareness for the kingfisher and part of the proceeds will be used to support their habitat in Zug. Several local schools joined in to run for the charity in the afternoon and adults and families took part in the evening. Famous triathlete Brigitte McMahon was on hand to motivate her peers but couldn’t take part in the planned warm-up due to injury. The sponsored run was a huge success and to date has raised over CHF 27,000 for WWF Zug.
More information on their events (in German) can be found at WWF Zug.
I have attached some images from the event below and many more can be found at:
The warm-up for the schools begins…
Bands were used to keep track of the laps covered
The adults and families were on good form later that evening…
The big panda got jumped on a lot after the race…
This family had made kingfisher T-shirts especially for the race.
Brigitte McMahon was there to cheer on the families and adults but had to sit out due to injury.
Re-elected Rupan Sivaganesan from the Green Party was on hand collecting signatures for a petition and there were several councillors who took part in the sponsored run.
Congratulations to everyone who took part and to the team and volunteers at WWF Zug.
